Chairperson of the Organizing Committee of the 12th International Earth Science Olympiad

The province of Kanchanaburi is approximately 123 km west of our capital, Bangkok (about two-hour drive by car), with a wealth of natural and historical attractions. The Bridge over the River Kwai, the Hellfire Pass Memorial Museum, the Saiyok Yai Waterfall, to mention just a few. The climate is tropical otherwise moderately pleasant throughout the year with temperature varying from 20 ℃ to 38 ℃ and with some showers from July to September. Owing to its location amid Permian-Triassic karst landscapes, Mahidol University Kanchanaburi Campus, fits so nicely as the venue for the IESO 2018 activities.
Thailand takes this auspicious occasion to honor His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej who is the first ever recipient of the IUSS Humanitarian Soil Scientist Award; His Majesty's official birthday December 5th is also recognized internationally as the World Soil Day. His Majesty is the recipient of the UNDP Human Development Lifetime Achievement Award.
